Biography
Dr.
Ying Shen is a Professor and Director of Aortic Disease Research Laboratory at
Baylor college of medicine. She received her MD from Beijing Medical College,
China and her PhD from University of New South Wales, Australia. Dr.
Shen's research focuses on vascular biology and diseases. One of her main research
interests is in the molecular mechanisms of aortic aneurysms and dissections, highly lethal but
poorly understood
conditions. The lab has several ongoing
projects investigating the dynamic signal transduction and gene expression
regulation that control aortic degeneration, healing, and remodeling. The lab
has developed a mouse model of sporadic aortic aneurysms and dissections and
uses various techniques to evaluate aortic structure and functions. The
ultimate goal of Dr. Shen’s research is to use pharmacological treatment to
prevent progressive aortic destruction and disease deterioration.
